Getting Started
How do I start a project with Boss Design Center?
Call or email to schedule a free consultation. We’ll meet at your home to see your space and discuss your vision. There’s no obligation.
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. We provide free in-home consultations where we see your space, discuss your ideas, and explain our process.
What should I bring to the initial consultation?
Bring any inspiration images you’ve collected. Photos of your current space help too. Come with questions and an open mind. If you have budget parameters, share those so we can plan realistically.
What areas do you serve?
We serve the Washington, D.C. metro area including Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Most of our work is within 5-10 miles of our McLean or Bethesda showroom locations. We’ll travel up to 30 miles for appropriate projects.
Do you work in my city?
We serve McLean, Arlington, Alexandria, Vienna, Falls Church, Great Falls, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Rockville, and various D.C. neighborhoods. Contact us to discuss your specific location.
I don't know exactly what I want yet. Should I wait to contact you?
No. Many of our best projects start with clients who aren’t certain about their vision. We excel at helping you discover what you want through conversation and showroom visits.
Our Process & Timeline
How long does a kitchen remodeling project take?
Kitchen remodeling typically takes 6-8 months total. This includes 1-2 months for design, 4-6 weeks for permitting and scheduling, and 3-4 months for construction.
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
Timeline varies by scope. A full bathroom remodel typically takes 3-5 months including design and construction phases. We provide specific timelines during your consultation.
What is the design-build process?
We handle both design and construction under one roof. You work with one team from concept to completion. No coordinating between separate designers and contractors.
Will I have to move out during construction?
For single-room renovations like kitchens or bathrooms, most clients remain in their homes. We protect unaffected areas and maintain daily cleanup. For whole house renovations, we can discuss whether staying or relocating temporarily makes more sense.
How often will you communicate during my project?
You’ll meet weekly with your project manager and coordinator during construction. Our online system provides real-time updates, schedules, and communication access anytime.
What happens during the design phase?
We measure your space, establish your design philosophy, and create photorealistic 3D renderings. You’ll select every material in our showroom. The design phase typically takes 1-2 months.
What are photorealistic renderings?
These are detailed 3D visualizations showing exactly how your finished space will look. They show actual cabinet colors, countertop patterns, how light reflects in the space, and all design details. What you see in the rendering is what you’ll get.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. We obtain and manage all necessary permits for your project. You don’t need to do anything related to permitting.
What if my HOA needs to approve the project?
We assist with HOA approval processes. We prepare all required documentation and design plans. While you typically need to be the official submitter, we provide everything you need and guidance throughout.

How much does basement finishing cost?
Basement finishing costs depend on the size of your basement, the finishes you select, and whether you add features like a bathroom. We offer free cost appraisals where we’ll visit your home and provide a realistic estimate.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. After the initial consultation, we collect a design deposit before beginning the design phase. We also collect a deposit when the construction contract is signed.
What is a fixed-rate contract?
The price we quote is the price you pay. We don’t use allowances or estimate-based pricing. You select every detail before construction begins, so there are no surprise costs.
When do costs change?
Change orders are rare in our projects. They typically occur only when structural damage is discovered after demolition or when you request scope additions beyond the original design.
What does the price include?
Every project includes design services, photorealistic renderings, all materials, permits, project management, construction, weekly meetings, and warranty coverage. Nothing is extra unless you request additions beyond the original scope.
Design Services
What makes your design services different?
Design is the foundation of what we do. We’re designers who build, not contractors who offer basic design. Your designer stays involved from initial consultation through final completion.
Will my designer stay involved throughout the project?
Yes. The designer who creates your vision stays with you through project completion. You won’t be handed off to different people as your project progresses.
What if I have inspiration images from different styles?
That’s normal. We help you identify what you truly like about each image and create a cohesive design that captures that essence while maintaining consistency.
Can you help me figure out what I want?
Yes. About half our clients come to us uncertain about their vision. We’re experienced at guiding you through discovery conversations and showroom visits.
What is a design philosophy?
Before making any specific decisions, we establish a guiding concept for your space. This might be mid-century modern, cozy traditional, contemporary elegance, or your unique vision. Every design decision aligns with this philosophy.
Can I see examples of your work?
We have an extensive portfolio on our website and Houzz featuring over 20 completed projects. We also display completed work in our showrooms.
Do you do modern kitchens or traditional kitchens?
We design across the full spectrum of styles. Traditional, modern, transitional, coastal, French-inspired, or custom designs that don’t fit any category.
What are German kitchens?
German kitchens are high-end cabinetry manufactured in Germany. They feature precision engineering, modern aesthetics, handleless options, and innovative storage solutions. We offer Kuchen, Gaggenau, and Leicht brands.
Material Selection
Can I source my own materials?
We source 99% of materials for our projects. Major items like cabinets and flooring must come through us. This ensures design cohesion, quality control, and warranty protection.
Where do I select materials?
You’ll select materials in our McLean or Bethesda showrooms. You can see and touch actual samples, compare options side by side, and make confident decisions.
Can I visit your showroom?
Yes. Both locations are open Monday-Friday 9 AM-5 PM and Saturday 10 AM-4 PM. We encourage scheduling an appointment to ensure a designer is available to give you dedicated attention.
What's in your showrooms?
Cabinet door samples in various styles, countertop materials, tile selections, plumbing fixtures, hardware options, flooring samples, complete kitchen displays, and bathroom examples.
During Your Project
What if something unexpected comes up during construction?
If structural issues are discovered after demolition, we discuss them with you immediately with clear explanation and pricing. Our comprehensive planning means surprises are rare.
Can I make changes during construction?
Changes are rare because we select every detail before construction begins. If you want to change something or add scope, we can discuss it through a change order with adjusted timeline and cost.
How do you protect my home during construction?
We use physical barriers to contain dust and debris. We protect floors in work areas and pathways. We maintain a designated construction entrance. We do daily cleanup.
Will I have a functioning kitchen or bathroom during renovation?
For kitchen remodels, we can discuss temporary kitchen setups. For bathrooms, we typically work to maintain one functioning bathroom if you have multiple. We plan to minimize disruption.
How messy will construction be?
Construction involves dust and debris. We contain affected areas, protect your home, and do daily cleanup. Some disruption is unavoidable, but we work to minimize it.
What are your work hours?
We work within agreed-upon hours. For condos, we follow building-specific rules about work hours. We respect your schedule and minimize noise when possible.
After Completion
What warranty do you provide?
We provide 5-year warranty on structural work and 1-year warranty on all other aspects of your renovation. Many products also come with manufacturer warranties.
What does the warranty cover?
The warranty covers our workmanship and installation. Structural elements are covered for five years. Finishes, fixtures, cabinetry, countertops, tile, plumbing, electrical, hardware, and paint are covered for one year.
What happens after the warranty expires?
You can still reach out with questions. We remain available for maintenance advice. The relationship doesn’t end when construction ends.
Do you do a final walkthrough?
Yes. When construction is substantially complete, we do a comprehensive final walkthrough. We create a detailed punch list of any items needing attention. All punch list items are addressed before the project is considered fully complete.
