I’m from this Fairfax County, Virginia, area. I grew up here. I really want to upgrade my kitchen because I have a growing family, and, you know, a lot of times, I do see people who renovate their kitchens before they move out so they can sell the house.
I really want a renovation to live in it and grow in it because the cliché term is the heart of the home, but to me, it really is the heart of the home, and we’ve spent so much of our time here. So I talked – I knew eventually I wanted to have a nice kitchen, and it could be some time when the kids are grown up or when they are younger, and so I really wanted to – I just envisioned our family growing up, you know, in a nice kitchen like this. So we’re really happy we got to do that sooner rather than later.
So, it’s a really funny story. I was literally just searching on Google for, you know, any kitchen remodels in the area, and, you know, Boss Design Center came up with a lot of good reviews. So I read into the reviews, and I saw this name Talha that kept coming up, and I went to their website, and I just really wanted to understand like, is this the same Talha that we worked with before?
So, years ago, a few years ago, we were actually doing our wedding, and so he was actually a wedding photographer, and it was really nice working with him back then. So I literally called Boss Design Center, like just cold-called them, like, ‘Hey, so do you have a Talha? Can I talk to him?’ And like, the first time I called, they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s busy right now.’ So then I called again, and then I got directed to him, and he remembered my husband’s name, Victor. So that was kind of funny, and then, you know, the connection was there already, and it was – we knew it would be a smooth and really nice working relationship. So that’s how it came to be.
So, like the inspiration, obviously, it’s really hard to get out of social media and like the influencing of other people in their kitchen. So, I try really hard not to lean too hard into being influenced by the trends of today. I tried looking at classic photos and through Pinterest and magazines. I got inspiration through, like, I’ve always liked France and Paris. I studied abroad there.
So, that’s some of that inspiration, but we still wanted to keep that function along with the form, you know, make it beautiful and functional, practical. And so, yeah, I think Talha did a really good job of telling us, like, with his expertise and like all the, you know, the connections, the contractors, like being able to talk to him, be like, ‘Is this practical? Is it something that we can, that is possible?’ He was really good at, you know, bringing his expertise on that part.
I could never imagine, and so there were like appliances, there were like hardware. Towards the end, hardware is actually really important, and it’s actually an afterthought a lot of times in the design process. So once it got to the end where I thought I had all my decisions made, the hardware was actually really important, and I realized I liked different designs from different hardware, I guess, suppliers.
And so we went with the unlacquered brass because there are so many different types of brass. There could be polished brass, or like, you know, it could be a shinier gold or whatever, but the unlacquered brass is like this raw material that will age over time and patina, and that’s something that I really liked. And, like, it was kind of convenient in that it will be like going back to that Parisian look and like the European look that I wanted. But also, I could be looking at so many different hardware stores and have like the same color, you know.
So that’s where we went, and then the selection of faucets, like all that, was just so fun, and it was definitely hard, too, because this is a farmhouse sink with the two-handle over the faucet. And so I was fighting myself over the form and function on that because obviously, one handle is a little bit more form – no, function, but then I was like, I think I just would love to see the form. So, like, sometimes you have to figure out that trade-off with all your selections, and I’m really happy I made that selection.
“It was really good because then I was able to tell myself, ‘Is this something I actually want, or is it something I’m going crazy over?’ So we were able to kind of like meet in the middle a lot of times, and he would also make me feel good about my selections as well. So I really needed that sounding board, and like Talha was great at being that sounding board and telling me like, you know, ‘No black and white tiles or whatever it was, that’s too dark,’ like stuff like that. So I think the end result is really nice and bright and airy. So yeah, thank you, Talha.
The construction process, they’re really fast, they’re really nice workers who come and, like, have so many skills with their cabinetry and the carpentry, and it was just pre-done, and we were able to see the sampling in the office, and the colors and everything. And then the actual workers that came in, they were very careful with everything. If there was an etching, they would make sure to, like, make sure that it’s not visible, or they would reorder for us if something were wrong. So it was just a really good relationship, and I knew they wanted the best for their clients.
Relationship, I think with any project like this, there’s gonna be blood, sweat, and tears, anything that’s more than just like, you know, talking about the weather, you’re gonna have some conflicts, but that’s just a natural thing, and I think we’re closer as people because we’re able to go through something like a renovation.
Kids’ renovation where we had a newborn, by the way, we started with when I was pregnant with a second and now he’s out like after. So basically, it’s a rebirth of the kitchen and like an actual child, and so a lot of life changes have happened through this. I will definitely work with Talha and Boss Design Center again for any kitchen or, no, kitchen, any home renovation, um, and maybe other projects such as wedding photography and maybe like at a kids’ party or something; he can be a band or something.

My name is Nou, and my wife is Teresa. We have lived in this townhouse in Annandale, Virginia, for 9 years now. When we bought this house, the kitchen and dining room were separated by a wall. The kitchen had kind of dark traditional style cabinets and a countertop with a black color, and so the whole kitchen was kind of dark with traditional style. Also, the dining room was located inner part of the floor, and it was kind of dark, and we hardly used it. So, we wanted to convert this dark traditional kitchen into a bright one with a modern design and open space.
We started looking for kitchen remodeling companies in the area that specialize in modern design, and there weren’t many. Most of the companies we saw emphasized traditional design. So, we were searching online, and we came across Boss Design, which had some examples of modern kitchen design. When I called Boss Design and got connected to Talha, I quickly told him what we were looking for—a modern design, a white kitchen. He listened, and what we liked was he didn’t ask for our budget at the beginning because we were afraid if we had to throw a number, he might say that it was too low for him to consider. So, we were happy about that. A few days later, Talha came over for his initial consultation. We gave him a wish list, basically, and at the end, we told him our rough budget. In the end, he told us that he could work something for us, so we decided to continue with Boss Design.
Construction process was smooth, more quicker. The proposed crew members were extremely skillful. There were about a dozen of them or maybe more, but some of them possessed multiple skills in multiple different disciplines like carpentry, plumbing, electric, tile work, or painting. It was obvious that they all possessed years of experience and paid attention to details. They were also extremely courteous and friendly. We are extremely happy with the end result. We are smiling every day. The kitchen looks much bigger than we had anticipated, with plenty of cabinet space, as Talha had promised.
Definitely, I would recommend Boss Design if you’re considering, especially modern design kitchens. So my wife is originally from Spain, and we travel to Spain from time to time and over there, a white kitchen with a sleek design is a standard. So, I have seen that really, and that was appealing to us, and that’s what we wanted, and that’s why we wanted a white-based, modern, sleek design.

So we recently remodeled our kitchen and our first floor. The way it looked before was there was a wall here when you walked in, so the dining room and the living room were completely separated. There was a step down; this house was built in the 80s, so there are a lot of levels in the house. The walls were yellow, and the floor was a really dark reddish mahogany color.
In the kitchen, it was also closed off. It had an L-shaped island, and it was just really dark with one small window. We knew we always wanted to remodel it, but we were just looking for the right time and the opportunity to open it up, make it feel brighter, allow more natural light, and lighten up the colors in the kitchen.
We found Boss Design by doing some research on Houzz and local designers, when we were interviewing, we really liked the concept that they had remodeled a very similar home with the exact same footprint and theme vision. Being able to see the end product helped us envision what our house could be.
We interviewed a couple of other remodeling and design companies, but their concepts were either different from what we wanted, or they discouraged us from having the open floor concept. Boss Design felt like a good blend of having the vision and the experience of executing it in the past.
I think we went through a lot of different iterations and thoughts from different designers in terms of like really doing a whole blowout and extending the house or just working with what we had and you know just rearranging the cabinets and so forth. Boss Design had a really good vision, and they walked us through it.
A couple of other designers gave us some proposals, but Boss Design worked on a house with a similar layout, giving us an idea of what was possible. Taha really shared ideas about taking down the wall, lifting up the floor, and making it more cohesive and modern. It was a fun process of designing everything.

He had a specific vision and advised us on what would work well. Living in the house during construction had its challenges, but planning everything in advance made it go smoothly.
The end result was worth it. The flow from the kitchen to the living room, dining room, mudroom, and other areas on the first floor feels cohesive. It doesn’t feel like a kitchen renovated in 2023 and the rest of the house from the 80s. Taha’s design eye and collaboration made the process enjoyable, and the crew was fantastic.

We moved here in 2016. My husband and I moved here in 2016, and this kitchen was primarily used for social functions and for ministry. My husband and I are active in marriage ministry at our church. Couples usually come here, and we minister to them. Dinner is a huge thing for couples. The old kitchen design wasn’t functioning because it’s enclosed, and we only have one sink. In the past, in marriage ministry, that sometimes became a conflicting point between me and my husband. I’m cooking, and I have to run to the dishwasher or to the sink, and my husband loves to help me in the kitchen, so sometimes it’s a clash. It creates conflict.
We thought of ways to make the kitchen work, to make it a social kitchen, and at the same time, we’re not going to clash. We looked for different contractors and found Boss Design because Sean occurred. I worked with Sean in Boss Design, and he is a genius. He removed the walls here, like the bar area, and I love the open concept that he did. It’s amazing how he transformed that space from a closed one to an open concept like this.
Now we don’t bump into each other anymore. My husband has a huge sink, 45 inches, and I have a prep sink in the corner, close to my cooktop. There are two different zones here, one for dishwashing and the other for prep. That achieves the function of the kitchen. My husband and I chose this beautiful countertop at the Stone Center.
It’s Brazilian, called Elegant Gray Quartzite. I don’t like tiles because it’s too much work. I have allergies, so I don’t like dust. Even the cabinet is all the way to the top, so it doesn’t accumulate dust, and everything is hidden. I like the clean function. You’ll notice we don’t have much carpet; everything is hardwood because of my allergies. It’s easy to clean. I highly recommend Boss Design and choose Sean or Coral. I worked with Sean, and he is a genius. I’m so happy with my kitchen.

So we were looking to renovate, and we had a wall to take down to open up the flow from the kitchen to the dining room. We were looking for something mid-century to fit the home.
We looked around for several companies, actually signed up with one temporarily, went through about two two-month process with them, and realized they weren’t the right fit. The design style and offerings weren’t what we wanted. So we switched. We interviewed some more and came across Taha with Boss Design Center. He blew me away the first time he stepped into the house. He had a vision immediately for what to do with the kitchen, and we fell in love with it. So there was no question he was the person to go with; this company was the person to go with.
The construction crew was fantastic; we actually made friends with most of them. They always cleaned up after themselves, were very pleasant, and did an excellent job. We’re super happy with it. We have a huge island that we’ve always wanted. The flow is great, the function is great, and we would totally recommend Taha at Boss to anyone looking to redesign their kitchen, bathroom or anything. He does it all. So you’ll be disappointed; he’s a gem, he’s fantastic. He is with you every step of the way. Any stress that I had, any question that I had, if I was in a panic about something, I would call him, and he had a solution right there immediately. It was just a great experience. I would absolutely do it again, and I will use it again for other projects in the home.

We wanted a black and white, clean lines, timeless look. We could add our pops of color or our own personal touch with accessories. The tile, the diamond shape with a 3D texture, was attractive to us. The backsplash was laid out to show the whole tile across the center, which we really liked. The hood of the oven had a seamless look, complementing everything and keeping it neat and tight for our style.
Well, he brought a lot of the ideas himself. Initially, I thought I wanted the stove on the island, but he said no; it’s not a good fit for this kitchen. He moved everything around, so it wasn’t just a plug-and-play cookie-cutter kind of thing. His design transformed the 90s kitchen into what’s behind me now, a mid-century modern masterpiece. When he first entered this kitchen, it was a 90s kitchen. He knew right away what he wanted to do. I told him what I wanted to do; some of the pieces worked, but his vision is what’s behind me. He really blew it out of the park.
