Common Questions About Whole Home Remodeling

What does whole home remodeling typically include?

Whole home remodeling involves updating multiple spaces with a unified design vision. This usually includes the kitchen and bathrooms, and can extend to living areas, bedrooms, basements, and home additions. It often includes systems updates: electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, as well as new flooring, lighting, and finishes throughout. The exact scope depends on your goals and the current condition of your home. We cover all of this during the free initial consultation.

How long does a whole home renovation typically take?

It depends on the scope of work. Our process includes a design phase where every detail is finalized, a permitting phase, and then construction. For reference, a single kitchen remodel typically runs about 6-8 months from consultation to completion. Whole home projects take longer given the number of spaces involved. Families staying in the home during renovation may choose to phase the work, which affects overall timeline. We provide a project-specific estimate during your free consultation.

Do I need to move out during a whole home renovation?

Not necessarily. We can phase the work to keep portions of your home livable throughout the process, completing essential spaces first and moving through secondary areas in stages. Some clients prefer to relocate temporarily to allow work to proceed without interruption, which typically speeds up completion. We’ll walk you through both options and help you decide what makes sense for your situation.

What is a fixed-rate contract and how does it protect me?

Before construction begins, every material is selected and every cost is calculated. The price in your contract is the price you pay. We don’t use allowances or make pricing decisions mid-project. Change orders only occur in two situations: structural issues discovered after demolition that require attention for safety or code reasons, or scope additions you request beyond the original design. Everything else is accounted for before work begins.

Will my designer stay involved throughout the project?

Yes. The designer who develops your vision stays with your project from initial consultation through final walkthrough. Designer continuity is one of the most consistent themes in client feedback, and people don’t want to be handed off from person to person. Your designer knows the intent behind every decision made during the design phase, and that knowledge stays with your project throughout.

Do you handle all permits and approvals for the project?

Yes. We obtain and manage all permits required for your project, including building, electrical, and plumbing permits. Permitting requirements vary by county and scope of work, and we handle all of it. You don’t need to track applications, follow up with local agencies, or figure out what’s required. We manage the process and keep your project moving.

How do I know what my home will look like before construction?

We create photorealistic 3D renderings during the design phase that show your finished spaces in real detail. Clients consistently tell us the renderings matched exactly what they received at completion. This visual certainty matters especially on a whole home project, where seeing how spaces connect and flow together helps you make confident decisions before construction begins.

How often will I hear from you during construction?

You’ll meet weekly with your project manager and coordinator throughout the construction phase. Between meetings, our online project management platform gives you real-time access to schedules, updates, and communications. We maintain proactive communication so you always know what’s happening before you think to ask.

Can I make changes to the design after construction starts?

Changes during construction are rare because every detail is finalized before work begins. There are no material decisions left to make mid-project. If you want to add scope beyond the original design, we’ll document it through a formal change order with updated costs and any timeline impact. This is genuinely the exception in our projects, not something you should expect to navigate regularly.

What warranty coverage do you offer after the project?

Every project includes a 5-year warranty on structural work and a 1-year warranty on all other aspects of the renovation. After your project is complete, we remain available and reachable. You have one company to contact if anything needs to be addressed, the same company that designed and built your home.
